Mental effects on acne
Mental health and acne
The attitude that I have towards my acne and life in general seems to affect my acne a lot. Many studies have been done on how negative emotions release cortisol and disbalance your hormones, lowering your immune system. It seems that if I look in the mirror 10-20 times during the day, it makes me very negative and really doesn’t help my acne. One thing that I tried, and it worked well, was to force myself to smile whenever I looked in the mirror and think: "oh I look GOOD". (I had to really believe it, even when I had pimples everywhere; I searched for the CLEAR parts of my skin. Seriously, at first I told myself... there are no clear parts of my face!
Breakouts under stress
But then I found some, even when I had my worse breakouts, I found some parts that were clear and concentrated on those parts of my face when I looked at myself. I cannot believe the improvement that my mood had on my face; it just seems that when I'm happy, my face magically clears up. And when I'm mad, frustrated, stressed or tense, my face flares up! That's another reason why being outside is good, it's hard to be stressed and mad when you have a nice gentle breeze blowing and birds are chirping.
Attitude and Acne
Quote: “The most successful people have shifted their attitude towards acne. Acne is a LOT more mental than you think. If you think you are ugly... if you are frustrated... if you are mad, if you are sad, then STOP IT and by happy that you're alive, you aren't missing most of your limbs, you aren't starving in a third world country and you ARE going to eventually find the cure to your acne. When you think negative thoughts your whole body acidifies, releases excess hormones and so on. Negative thoughts are in my experience, one of the major causes of acne. I believe this is why sometimes I would go to a party, drink tons of alcohol, eat tons of junk food, have a GREAT time flirting with all these girls and then the next morning, I wake up clear. As opposed to eating properly, staying at home playing computer and feeling like shit... the next morning I usually get something.
Mentally healing your acne
Even if deep down inside you feel bad, tell yourself otherwise! FAKE IT, I don't care. Laugh, tell yourself you LIKE yourself, tell yourself you're hot, that at least there's improvement and tomorrow you'll look even better. Also, exercising makes you feel great about yourself. Do whatever it takes, concentrate on what's GOOD in your life and your acne WILL get better.
